Do You Walk Through Your Product Every Week?
Make It a Weekly Habit
Every founder should walk through their entire product workflow at least once a week — as a brand new user, with fresh eyes.
This means:
- Sign up as a new user (use a fresh account, not your internal admin view)
- Go through the entire onboarding process from start to finish
- Experience what it actually looks and feels like to discover and begin using your product for the first time
What to Look For
The question to hold in mind throughout: how can we make this easier?
Specifically:
- Fewer clicks — every unnecessary step is a place where users drop off
- Less time — how quickly can a new user reach the core value of your product?
- Less friction — where do you hesitate, get confused, or need to think?
Why Founders Stop Doing This
It is easy to lose touch with the new user experience as your product matures. You know where everything is. You know what the buttons do. You have forgotten what it feels like to be lost.
Your customers have not forgotten. They experience that confusion every day. Walking the workflow weekly keeps you honest about the gap between what you think the experience is and what it actually is.
The Output
Keep a running list of friction points you notice. Prioritise the ones that appear every week — those are the ones costing you the most customers.
